Building fireHazmat Operations
The Knoxville Fire Rescue Department provides a Hazardous Material Operations Level Response Team.

Confined Space
In order to provide comprehensive response capabilities, the Knoxville Fire Rescue Department can provide technical rescue from elevated structures, as well as confined spaces.

Auto Extrication
The Knoxville Fire Rescue Department has been on the leading-edge of auto extrication for the past few years. In 1998, firefighters began undergoing additional training for auto extrication. A large number of firefighters now hold Vehicle Rescue Specialist Certifications. The certification is a 20-hour class, involving hands-on training in auto extrication. The course provides firefighters with the ability to perform very difficult decision-making in a variety of rescue situations.

All firefighters are required to successfully demonstrate biShorelineannual competency skills. In April of 2004, the Knoxville Fire Rescue Department was honored with the National "TNT Gold Cutter Award".

Water Rescue
The Knoxville Fire Rescue Department responds to water rescue calls. Three firefighters are also certified divers and respond with the Marion County Dive Team. We also operate a Boston Whaler Water Rescue Boat (B902).
