[ARCHIVED] Update on Streetscape Project

Hawkeye Paving recently completed work on the Streetscape project. Although some work remains, the streets and sidewalks are now open! We appreciate everyone's patience as we make progress.

Recent work included completion of the concrete installation along Second Street, particularly in the parking stalls along the inner ring. During the conrete pour of the parking stalls, the contractor and City staff identified an issue with the survey markers that were used to form the parking stall area. The survey markers were set incorrectly by the surveyor which left a finished product that does not meet the grade required on the project. The City will not accept the project until the grade meets the correct design so this means the contractor will be responsible for replacing the parking stalls on Second Street within the inner ring (Courthouse side). The survey error only affected the concrete pour and does not affect sanitary sewers, water lines, storm sewers or anything else. The City is already beginning to plan for work in the spring that will include the remaining items along Second Street, including the parking stalls, and work that will begin on Robinson Street between Second and Third.

We anticipate the parking stall repair will take less than one week and will only impact parking stalls. The City will not be responsible for the cost of the error.
